Job title: Admin and Communications Officer

Reporting to: Digital NNS Project Manager

Hours: 15 hours per week (three working days, or flexible working patterns)

Salary: Salary £13.50 per hour

Contract: 9 Months Maternity Cover

Annual leave: 30 days of annual leave (pro rata)

Location: From home working, NCP Offices, meetings in cafes, etc

About Digital NNS

NCP has been commissioned by Birmingham City Council to run a Digital Evolution project, identifying the digital maturity of each of the city's 10 Neighbourhood Network Schemes (NNS) and working with them to maximise opportunities for digital inclusion for the benefit of local assets and citizens.

The project will provide a space/forum for those in the Neighbourhood Network Schemes working on digital to help in identifying gaps, feed into Birmingham's Digital Strategy, enable people to access online activities, improve the visibility of digitally accessible activities on the Birmingham

Connect to Support website, provide support for people involved in local Facebook / hyperlocal websites, provide training, develop and share opportunities to access equipment & develop skills & data access, and help those digitally excluded in our diverse city

About the role

We are looking for an Admin and Communications Officer to work on a new digital evolution project, (see below) as well as supporting the broader outputs of the organisation.

This is an opportunity to join a unique and well-known small charity, with strong values at its heart.

The role will be directly supported and managed by the Digital NNS (Neighbourhood Network

Schemes) Community Lead.

The role also requires a close working relationship with the project's advisory group and city-wide NNSs.

Part of media work at Digital NNS will involve directly communicating with people supported by

NNS staff (with support from the NNS's) on how to effectively tell their stories and contribute to change. As such, candidates should have strong empathy for community work.

Candidates should share the overall values of the organisation, and ideally already be engaged with some of the issues we deal with (supporting families, housing support, volunteering opportunities, sexual health services, digital literacy, job and employment support) in a personal or professional capacity (though the role will support additional learning and development around these).

While some experience in this area of work is required, beyond traditional qualifications and work experience, applications should also include details of voluntary and community work, and other engagement with community development. Applications may also wish to include any relevant life experiences which have shaped thinking and values.

SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES

A

Media relations

● Drafting and distributing press releases, quotes and external publications on policy issues and events.

● Answering and delegating responses to media and stakeholder enquiries.

● Monitoring and sharing media coverage.

B

Administration, Communications and social media

● Supporting the rollout of this new project, Digital NNS.

● Creating content and supporting the establishment and development of Digital NNS's website page and social media including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and possible other accounts.

● Drafting and distributing online content such as news pieces and newsletters.

● Supporting members of staff in proof reading key materials, reports and publications.

● Coordinate communications work related to the Digital NNS Project, and events promotion

● Participating in general administration duties.

C General

● Taking part in meetings, planning and research for this project and our work.

● Implementation of the Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of work.

● Abiding by NCP polices, including those related to Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Code of Conduct and the Employee Handbook.

● Attending regular staff meetings and other internal meetings as required.

● Attending relevant training sessions as agreed with supervisor.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

● Interest in the sector and the kind of work Digital NNS will be doing and a commitment to our values is essential. This includes awareness of digital exclusion and digital poverty.

● IT literate and experienced in using key Microsoft packages or similar.

● Experience in administration, media, PR or journalism, with examples of writing or press releases.

● Strong communications skills, both in writing and verbally.

● Experience in managing and creating content for social media, including Facebook and Twitter.

● Ability to work as part of a team, balance competing priorities and attention to detail.

● An understanding of, and a commitment to, the principles of equal opportunities and diversity.

● Design or digital media skills such as image or audio editing are desirable but not essential.

● Experience of newsletter creation and/or promotion in personal or professional capacities is desirable but not essential.
