· Lead mechanical design for advanced electric motor systems and rotating machinery
· Senior technical role with a forward-thinking company
· Excellent development and progression opportunities
About the Company:
This opportunity is with a global innovator in high-performance electric motor technology, power electronics, and energy-efficient thermal systems. The company's products support a wide range of industries, including commercial vehicles, rail, marine, off-highway machinery, and smart building technologies.
With a strong focus on engineering excellence and sustainability, the organisation is expanding its UK-based design team and is now searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge motor systems.
Role Overview:
You will take a leading role in designing and developing mechanical systems for next-generation electric motors and other rotating equipment such as pumps and fans. This is a hands-on role, covering everything from concept generation and simulation through to prototype build and validation.
You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support delivery of customer-led projects, and help guide junior engineers in best practice and design excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
* End-to-end mechanical design of electric motors and rotating machinery, from concept to production.
* Develop, prototype, and test new ideas using advanced simulation tools and practical engineering methods.
* Conduct mechanical analysis to predict failure modes, material performance, and system durability.
* Build and test prototype hardware, including development of bespoke test rigs.
* Produce accurate 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings in line with industry standards
* Apply simulation and analysis software (e.g. ANSYS, MATLAB) to optimise performance.
* Select materials, manufacturing methods, and apply design-for-manufacture principles.
* Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers throughout development cycles.
* Support quality, reliability, and compliance standards throughout the design process.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical growth within the team.
Key Requirements:
* Proven experience in mechanical design of motors, rotating machinery, or similar electro-mechanical systems.
* Proficient in 3D CAD (e.g. Autodesk Inventor or equivalent)
* Skilled in engineering calculations and use of analysis tools (ANSYS, MATLAB)
* Experience with prototype development, tooling, and hands-on assembly.
* Knowledge of design risk tools such as DFMEA/PFMEA and design for manufacture.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
* Able to interpret technical specifications and deliver engineered solutions to tight deadlines.
* Degree (BEng/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* Able to interpret technical specifications and deliver engineered solutions to tight
