Job Description

Location: WF3, Wakefield

Days: Tuesday & Thursday each week

Start: ASAP

Type: Long-term assignment

Agency: Reed Education

Are you a patient, resilient and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a meaningful long-term role? Reed Education is working with a warm and welcoming primary school in the WF3 area of Wakefield that is seeking an experienced practitioner to provide one-to-one support for a Year 5 pupil with complex behavioural needs who is non-verbal.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on making a difference, values strong relationships, and is confident supporting a child who needs consistency, understanding and firm but compassionate guidance.

About the Role

In this position, you will:

* Work 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil who requires tailored behavioural, emotional and communication support
* Use alternative communication methods and visual routines to aid engagement
* Implement structured strategies to help the pupil access learning safely and positively
* Collaborate closely with teaching staff, the SENCO and pastoral team
* Create an encouraging, predictable environment where the pupil feels supported and understood
* Contribute to the wider ethos of a school that places kindness, inclusivity and personal growth at the heart of everyday life

You will be joining a school community known for its commitment to nurturing each child as an individual, celebrating differences, and building strong, supportive relationships with families and staff. Their approach places equal importance on wellbeing, character development and academic progress, making it a rewarding place to work for those who share the same values.

About You

We’d love to hear from you if you:

* Have strong experience supporting children with additional needs - particularly behavioural or communication challenges
* Are confident working with non-verbal pupils using PECS, visual aids, or other alternative communication tools
* Can remain calm, consistent and solution-focused in challenging situations
* Bring a positive, resilient attitude and a genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers
* Enjoy working collaboratively within a caring, child-centred team

What Reed Can Offer You

* Competitive daily pay, paid weekly
* Your own dedicated specialist consultant
* Access to training and CPD
* Long-term stability within a supportive school environment

This role is ideal for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who is looking to make a lasting impact. If you believe every child deserves patience, understanding and the chance to thrive on their own terms, we would love to hear from you.
