Job description:
This role would include weighing and mixing ingredients, shaping and baking dough, and finishing and decorating products. An apprentice baker focuses on learning these skills, assisting with production, and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met under supervision. Key responsibilities for both roles involve following recipes, operating equipment, maintaining a clean workspace, and complying with health and safety regulations. Responsibilities and duties
* Preparation: Read and interpret recipes, prepare equipment, and measure and weigh ingredients.
* Production: Mix ingredients, knead dough, shape products, and operate ovens to bake goods.
* Quality Control: Perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products, and ensure consistent portion sizes.
* Maintenance: Clean and maintain baking tools, equipment, and the work area.
* Inventory: Monitor stock levels, receive and store ingredients, and manage ordering supplies.
* Compliance: Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations, including allergen laws.
* Customer service (for some roles): Prepare displays, serve customers, and potentially take orders.
* Apprentice-specific duties: Assist senior bakers with daily production, learn new techniques, and support the team to meet production schedules.
Skills and qualifications
* Basic Skills: Strong work ethic, timekeeping, and a willingness to learn.
* Technical Skills: Hand-eye coordination, knowledge of different baking processes (e.g., lamination, fermentation), and the ability to operate machinery.
* Soft Skills: Ability to work individually or as part of a team, problem-solving abilities, and good communication skills.
Work environment
* Work Schedule: Can include early mornings, weekends, and overtime, especially during peak periods.
