Technical Advisor – Monitoring and Data Systems Team – 32406
Join the Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) at the Environment Agency. The team manages essential environmental monitoring systems and datasets, supporting internal and external customers across England.
Job Description
The Technical Advisor will work within a multi-disciplinary team, managing Water Quality systems and other data. Responsibilities include:
* Setting up and managing user accounts
* Supporting users and resolving issues, especially during the transition to the new My Environment application
* Updating, improving, and maintaining datasets
* Responding to internal and external data requests
* Supporting system improvement and upgrade projects
All team members undergo training and participate in incident response duties when required.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience working with large, complex datasets
* Willingness to develop and apply new technical skills across monitoring data and systems
* A motivated, organised, friendly, and detail‑oriented individual comfortable working in a dispersed team
* Proactive and enjoys solving problems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others, and provide excellent customer service
Desirable Skills
* Experience managing environmental monitoring data systems
* Experience with PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online, and R
* Working knowledge of water quality monitoring

Work Location and Schedule
Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and be present there. The role is hybrid, combining home and office work, with some travel for meetings.
