Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Family Support Worker to join our team. The aim of the Family Support Worker is to support families and children in a range of parent support services, in the ward areas.

The Family Support Worker will work closely with the Team Leader, Speech & Language Therapist, Speech & Language Support Workers, in providing a range of support to families in the community as well as providing support for the other components of the project in securing inclusive services to children.

Responsibilities

To set out in consultation with parent agreed level and type of support.

To provide play programmes in the home.

To deliver Peeps, Infant Massage, reflexology and all programmes that you have been trained in.

To develop in partnership with parents, daily household routines to assist in the care of children.

To manage a case load to develop, implement and evaluate planned intervention for children and their families using the Outcome Star were appropriate.

To help children and their families access additional services as appropriate.

To develop strategies for raising awareness of the importance of diet, dental care, budget, parenting, general health & hygiene and support parents with rules and boundaries to assist in the management of their children's behaviour.

To ensure that all information re: families and children are treated with the utmost confidentiality.

To maintain appropriate records and implement monitoring and evaluations systems which will enable the Omagh Sure Start Management Committee to monitor service levels and outcomes.

To support parent to register with the crèche and help settle children in co-operation with Creche Leader.

To assist parents in planning and keeping appointments concerning their children's social, physical, educational and intellectual development.

To work on the individual families behalf with the rest of the Sure Start team to ensure they receive the best possible service.

To ensure that all records of contact with families are recorded using the relevant forms ensuring they are dated and signed using full name and black ink.

To sign post families to other relevant agencies and work collaboratively with other Health Agencies i.e. Health Visitors, Social Workers and Women's aid etc.

To work towards all Sure Start targets as set out in the Business Plan.

To be willing to undertake training in relation to antenatal and postnatal services.

To undertake any other relevant duties


Skills


Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of people especially parents and children.

Ability to demonstrate your understanding of Early Intervention with vulnerable families.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Minimum of two years experience of working with families and children.

Experience of report writing and record keeping.

Good organisational and inter-personal skill.

Flexibility on working hours and duties.

Ability to deliver play programme in the home or group based.

Qualifications and Training

One of the following or their equivalent:

· NNEB

· NVQ Level V in Childcare and Education, or working towards.

· BTEC in Nursery

Training/Childcare Studies.

· Teachers Certificate (Early Years)

· Health or Social Work qualification (or equivalent)

· Community development course

Experience

2 years paid experience working with parents & children. Experience working with children is essential

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Empathy and compassion towards others

- Ability to work effectively in a team

- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Desirable

Experience of working with children / families with additional needs.

Knowledge of nutrition & diet

Working pattern

Monday to Friday 9.00am to 3.30pm 48 weeks per year

This post involves working with children and is subject to the provisions of the safeguarding vulnerable groups (NI) order 2007

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: Up to £14.21 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
