Senior / Principal Civil Design Engineer - Energy Infrastructure
A major infrastructure engineering business is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Civil Design Engineer to join its growing energy infrastructure team in Epsom.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a leading role in the delivery of nationally significant energy projects, working on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations and wider grid infrastructure developments that are helping support the UK's transition towards a more resilient and sustainable energy network.
The team is continuing to expand and is looking to bring in experienced engineers who can contribute technically while helping support the growth and development of the wider design function.
The Role
You'll be involved in the design and delivery of civil engineering solutions for major energy infrastructure projects across the UK, taking schemes from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction support.
Projects typically involve large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations and associated energy infrastructure, where you'll be responsible for the design of drainage systems, earthworks, site levels, access roads and wider civil engineering infrastructure.
Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you'll collaborate closely with electrical engineers and project teams to develop practical, buildable and cost-effective engineering solutions. The role involves extensive use of Civil 3D and 3D modelling techniques, alongside coordination with stakeholders, contractors and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
At Principal level, there will also be opportunities to provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and support project delivery across multiple schemes.
What We're Looking For
* Experience in civil infrastructure, development infrastructure or utility infrastructure design.
* Strong background in drainage, earthworks, highways or access road design.
* Proficiency with Civil 3D and 3D modelling workflows.
* Experience delivering projects through detailed design stages.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
* Chartered status is welcomed but not essential.
* Ambition to achieve Chartership would be highly desirable.
Why Apply?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team working in one of the UK's fastest-expanding infrastructure sectors.
The business has a substantial pipeline of secured energy infrastructure work, with increasing demand for Battery Energy Storage Systems and substation developments across the country. You'll be working on projects that play a direct role in supporting the UK's energy transition, grid resilience and future power requirements.
The team offers a collaborative and supportive environment with genuine opportunities for progression. Professional development is strongly encouraged, with senior leadership actively involved in ICE mentoring and the development of structured training programmes designed to support engineers working towards Chartership.
As the team continues to grow, there will be significant opportunities for high-performing individuals to increase their responsibility, influence project delivery and progress their careers within a rapidly expanding sector.
Benefits
* Competitive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 depending on experience.
* Hybrid working arrangements.
* Strong pipeline of secured energy infrastructure projects.
* Chartership support and professional development.
* Exposure to major BESS, substation and grid infrastructure projects.
* Opportunity to work alongside experienced Chartered Engineers.
* Long-term progression within a growing and well-established infrastructure business.
* Supportive and collaborative team culture.
