Role: Senior DevOps Engineer
Location: Reading or Leeds (Hybrid 1 day per week onsite)
Salary: £80k - £85k
Active SC Clearance required
We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing team delivering fully automated, continuous deployment solutions. You will play a key role in building, maintaining, and improving infrastructure and deployment pipelines, while collaborating across development, QA, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities
1. Design and implement automated build and deployment pipelines for Java-based microservices
2. Contribute to version-controlled configuration assets within a fully automated CI/CD environment
3. Diagnose and troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment issues
4. Collaborate with development, QA, and operations teams to deliver reliable software services
5. Act as a key liaison between management, technical teams, and operations
6. Identify and implement automation opportunities that drive business value
7. Support large-scale CI/CD and source code management implementations
8. Monitor project progress and provide technical guidance where required
9. Build strong working relationships with internal teams and third-party suppliers
10. Work within an Agile delivery environment
11. Create and maintain lightweight technical documentation
12. Mentor and support junior team members
Essential Skills & Experience
13. Strong experience with CI/CD tools and practices (Jenkins, Git/GitLab)
14. Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
15. Proven experience building automation frameworks using Ansible
16. Hands-on experience with AWS services, including:
17. EC2, S3, Lambda
18. EKS (Kubernetes)
19. API Gateway, ALB
20. Auto Scaling
21. Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking, and security hardening
22. Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Kubernetes, preferably EKS)
23. Strong scripting/programming skills (e.g., Python, Groovy, Shell, Perl)
24. Knowledge of Git branching strategies and source control management
25. Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Cucumber, ReadyAPI)
26. Experience managing and scaling distributed systems in AWS environments
27. Familiarity with deployment strategies and release management approaches
28. Understanding of development concepts (REST APIs, JSON, YAML)
29. Experience integrating quality gates (e.g., SonarQube, regression testing) into pipelines
Desirable Skills
30. Experience with Jira or similar issue tracking tools
31. Knowledge of HashiCorp Packer (AMI creation) and Vault (secrets management)
32. Familiarity with messaging systems (IBM MQ, RabbitMQ)
33. Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Elastic Stack, AppDynamics)
