Mechanical Bias Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer- Bridgwater
We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Bias Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join a rapidly growing, multi-site manufacturing business. With a projected turnover of over £40 million this year, this company is continuing to expand and invest in its engineering function to support increasing production demands.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and skilled engineer to play a key role in maintaining and improving production equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and operational efficiency across a modern manufacturing environment.
The Role
As a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving a wide range of machinery and systems. You’ll work as part of a shift team, providing hands-on support and ensuring assets are operating at full capacity to meet production targets.
This role would suit someone with a strong mechanical bias, supported by solid electrical fault-finding skills, who enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), as well as reactive and predictive maintenance
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime
Conducting regular asset inspections to ensure safety and operational compliance
Providing rapid response to breakdowns and supporting production teams on shift
Working collaboratively with other engineers and departments to improve performance and reliability
Identifying and implementing cost-effective engineering solutions
Maintaining accurate maintenance records and supporting process improvements
Assisting with installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades
Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health, safety, and environmental standards
What my client is looking for:
Proven experience in a similar role within manufacturing, FMCG, or production environments
Strong mechanical engineering knowledge, with basic electrical competency (hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, pumps, sensors, conveyors, etc.)
Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent)
A proactive approach with strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders across the business
Package:
Salary: £56,500 per annum
Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off)
