This opportunity has come up to replace the current incumbent who is relocating back to the UK following a highly successful 3 years in the role.
The Job Purpose:
As Head of profession of occupational health and safety in the Island, responsible for providing direction and leadership to deliver a safer working environment in Jersey within which risks to health and safety of workers, and others directly affected by activities, are adequately controlled. You will have overall responsibly for providing leadership and guidance on all H&S matters, be responsible for leading on policy and strategy, providing advice to the Minister on legislation and standards, overseeing operational delivery and providing support and guidance to the team.
In Jersey the team, don’t specialise in certain sectors or locations, as you would on mainland UK, so your days will vary across different industries. Thus giving you have a lot more autonomy than in the UK and the ability to influence both on the political and legislative agenda and focus. You can get much more involved and can really make a difference here.
What we are looking for:
UK based candidates must hold the qualification ‘Specialist Post Graduate Diploma in Regulatory Occupational Health and Safety’, and either are or have been a Health and Safety Inspector in England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland or the crown dependencies (we may even consider New Zealand and Australia)
We are looking for someone already in a similar Director role who is looking for a change, or someone at a senior Inspector level with exposure to projects outside of the normal responsibilities of an inspector such as setting strategy and legislation or who has additional experience and abilities to take them to the next level of their career.
A comprehensive working knowledge of legal and technical policies and procedures relating to the enforcement and administration of criminal law.
Experience with prosecution is essential.
Strong ability to analyse and evaluate emerging trends, statistics, legislation and practice.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to adapt communication styles to influence and persuade but also be assertive when required.
High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality.
