Oncology Staff Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the Oncology Day Unit, based at North Tyneside General Hospital. This is one of 5 day units within Northumbria NHS Foundation Healthcare Trust.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has an interest in Oncology. The successful applicant will be working within a highly motivated, friendly team who will be delivering exceptionally high standards of care.

Main duties of the job
This postholder will support the existing team in the safe delivery of holistic care to a wide range of cancer patients undergoing day treatments.
Under the direction of the unit manager and senior staff, provide high standards of evidence-based, quality, holistic, nurse-led care to cancer patients with various conditions, and their carers.
With appropriate training and support, safely administer a wide range of cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and supportive care to patients. Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a collective leadership culture within the trust. Demonstrate leadership that: (a) engages, enables, and empowers others; (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement; (c) facilitates teamwork and collaboration within and across departments.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, along with smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, including the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. We also provide care in patients' homes and community facilities.

Job responsibilities
This role involves supporting the team in delivering safe care to cancer patients undergoing day treatments.
The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse, preferably with experience caring for cancer patients. Excellent communication skills are essential. Chemotherapy training will be provided; however, experience in venepuncture, IV drug administration, and care of central venous access devices would be advantageous. Candidates willing to undertake formal study to obtain qualifications in chemotherapy administration are encouraged to apply.
The candidate should be flexible, resilient, warm, and have a good sense of humor to meet the service's complex needs and work effectively within a small team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* First Level NMC registered Nurse
* Evidence of qualification to supervise, teach, and assess students (to be completed within 18 months)
* Willingness to expand scope to include phlebotomy, cannulation, vascular access device care, and administration of Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACT)
* Willing to undertake accredited SACT course and complete SACT competence passport within 12 months
* PP126/7 - Practice Assessor and Academic Assessor course
* D32/33 - Assessor Course
Experience & Knowledge
* Previous experience caring for cancer patients
