We’re looking for an experienced Building Control professional to join a vibrant team and play a key role in keeping buildings safe, sustainable and compliant.
You’ll need to be on-site at least three days a week, either in the office or at an agreed local workplace, therefore we need someone who is local to the area or willing to commute.
While local authority experience is helpful, it’s not essential and we can consider strong candidates from other backgrounds. The Building Control team ensures that developments meet the standards set out in the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
Responsibilities
* Lead and support a team of front‑line surveyors, ensuring statutory requirements and service targets are consistently achieved
* Take the lead on major and complex building control applications
* Inspect plans and supporting documents for compliance with the Building Regulations and the Building Act 1984
* Prepare schedules of required amendments, negotiate with applicants and recommend approvals or rejections within statutory timeframes
* Carry out annual safety inspections at relevant venues to safeguard public health and safety
* Initiate and assist with enforcement action when compliance has not been achieved
* Provide professional advice to support major corporate projects
This role requires registration with the Building Safety Regulator in accordance with Part 2A of the Building Act 1984 (Sections 58A–58M), relating to the registration of Building Inspectors. You will work within the Building Safety Regulator’s competency framework and be confident handling both technical and administrative building control matters.
