Job Title: Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Mechanic Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Mechanic to join our client on a perm basis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of our fleet of heavy goods vehicles to ensure they remain in safe, efficient, and roadworthy condition. The HGV Mechanic will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, conduct routine servicing, and perform preventative maintenance tasks to minimise downtime and maximise vehicle performance. Responsibilities: Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on heavy goods vehicles according to manufacturer guidelines and company standards. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in HGVs, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, and suspensions. Conduct comprehensive safety checks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Identify and order necessary parts and components for repairs and replacements. Utilise diagnostic equipment and tools to troubleshoot issues effectively. Perform routine servicing tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication. Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and time spent. Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines. Provide technical guidance and support to junior mechanics as needed. Stay updated on industry advancements, new technologies, and best practices in HGV maintenance and repair. Requirements: Proven experience as an HGV mechanic Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in heavy goods vehicles. Strong knowledge of HGV components, systems, and operations. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment used in vehicle maintenance and repair. Ability to interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Valid HGV mechanic certification (level 3) Valid driver's license Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and clients. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
