Location: Hoddesdon, EN11 Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 Permanent: Monday – Friday (09:00 – 17:30) Job Code: MJ2155 Bookkeeper Are you an experienced and motivated Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist looking for a stable role within a professional accountancy practice? Join my clients’ dedicated team in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, and play a crucial role in managing their clients' financial and payroll operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with prior practice experience and a strong technical skillset! Key Responsibilities: You will be responsible for providing comprehensive bookkeeping, payroll, and CIS services for a diverse portfolio of clients. Bookkeeping & VAT: * Carry out accurate and timely bookkeeping for multiple clients. * Manage client records and liaise with clients to resolve queries and discrepancies. * Prepare and submit VAT returns. * Work across a range of accounting platforms, including Sage Cloud, Sage 50, FreeAgent, QuickBooks, and Xero. Payroll & Pensions: * Manage end-to-end payroll operations for multiple clients within the practice. * Calculate gross pay, process statutory deductions (Tax, NI), and manage payments. * Administer statutory leave (holiday, sick, maternity, paternity) entitlements. * Process PAYE/NIC submissions to HMRC and manage workplace pension contributions. * Respond to employee queries regarding pay. CIS (Construction Industry Scheme): * Obtain and verify new sub-contractor details with HMRC. * Prepare and submit monthly CIS returns. * Arrange payment of CIS liabilities. What You'll Need: * ESSENTIAL: Previous, demonstrable experience working within a professional Accountancy Practice (minimum 1 year required). * Strong technical knowledge of payroll, VAT, and CIS compliance. * Proficiency in common accounting software (Sage Cloud, Sage 50, FreeAgent, QuickBooks, and Xero). * Excellent communication skills for professional client and HMRC liaison. * Ability to work independently, manage a busy workload, and consistently meet strict deadlines. Advantageous Skills (Not Essential): * Experience in the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies for review purposes (TaxCalc experience is a bonus).
