Role Overview
As a Roofing Estimator, you will play a vital role in pricing projects accurately and competitively while ensuring profitability and alignment with client requirements. You'll be responsible for interpreting drawings, specifications, and survey reports, producing detailed quotations, and supporting the sales and operations teams with technical cost information.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse drawings, specifications, and survey reports to prepare accurate estimates for roofing projects.
* Price materials, labour, and subcontractor works to ensure competitive and profitable quotations.
* Prepare and submit detailed cost breakdowns and tender documents.
* Liaise with surveyors, project managers, and suppliers to gather information and confirm requirements.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of roofing systems, materials, and current market rates.
* Review project risks, variations, and potential cost savings.
* Support the handover of projects to the operations team once contracts are won.
* Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Contribute to continuous improvement in estimating processes and pricing accuracy.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as an Estimator within the roofing or wider construction industry.
* Strong technical knowledge of roofing systems (pitched, flat, GRP, liquid, felt, slate, tile, etc.).
* Excellent numeracy and analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
* Strong IT skills – proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and digital estimating tools.
* Effective communication and negotiation skills.
* Organised with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
Desirable
* Construction-related qualifications (e.g., NVQ, HNC, CIOB, RICS).
* Experience working with estimating software
* Familiarity with JCT or NEC contracts.
