2-3 months with a Local Authority
Job Purpose
* The Street Outreach Youth Worker will be responsible for delivering outreach youth work across the Borough, mainly during afternoons and evenings, with occasional weekend work. The primary focus will be to support young people in their personal and social development through an informal education program and to engage and support disenfranchised young people (11-25 years) who are at risk of becoming involved in violence, gang activity, or offending. Additionally, the role involves delivering group and individual intervention work to reduce the risk of young people being excluded from school and entering the criminal justice system.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Deliver detached youth work sessions in an outreach capacity across the Borough as required
* Work with young disenfranchised people aged 11 to 25, supporting and facilitating appropriate referrals for their access to support available through services across the local authority, health, and voluntary sector partners
* Build and maintain positive relationships with young people
* Plan, deliver, and review programs that support the development of young people accessing the outreach service and encourage them to engage with other provision across the Borough
* Support the wider early help through targeted supportive work, as required
* Role model behavior to young people and families, displaying clear, personal, and professional boundaries
Essential Experience Required
* Experience of working with young people and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds
* Experience of dealing with challenging situations
* Experience of working as part of a wider prevention offer with partners from the statutory and voluntary sectors
* Experience of and willingness to undertake street-based outreach work
Essential Qualification Required
* Level 2/3 qualification in youth and community work or willingness to achieve this within 12 months
* GCSE or equivalent literacy and numeracy
Additional Information
* Working hours: 20 hours per week
* DBS is required for this role
