Overview
Civil Engineer - Highway Design and Planning role at Jacobs. This position supports the delivery of third-party highway projects under Sections 278 and 38 of the Highways Act (1980). Your engineering judgement, stakeholder coordination, and project delivery experience will contribute to Hertfordshire County Council’s infrastructure ambitions.

* Project delivery focus Your experience managing programmes of varying complexity will help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
* Site awareness Your presence on live construction sites will help monitor progress and ensure conformance to approved plans and safety standards.
* Regulatory insight You’ll help interpret and apply legislation, policies, and technical guidance, ensuring work aligns with council and legal frameworks.
What You’ll Need
* Extensive professional experience of highway engineering design and construction
* Project management experience
* In-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant design standards, including but not limited to Manual for Streets 1 & 2 and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence people at all levels
* Knowledge of the English planning process
The role is based in Stevenage and requires 2 days office work.
