Job Description As an SEN Teacher, you will deliver high-quality, personalised learning for students with complex needs. Working closely with the SENCO and wider teaching and pastoral teams, you will create a nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environment. Your role will support academic, social, and emotional development, helping students make meaningful progress in a trauma-informed setting. Key Responsibilities: Create a calm, inclusive classroom environment grounded in empathy, structure, and respect. Teaching a Year 6 class with high SEMH needs. Plan, resource, and deliver lessons tailored to individual EHCP targets and diverse learning styles Use sensory, practical, outdoor, and play-based approaches to enhance learning Support the whole child, focusing on communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and personal development Supervise and guide Teaching Assistants to ensure high-quality support Assess progress regularly and set personalised learning targets Communicate effectively with parents/carers about achievements, challenges, and next steps Collaborate with therapists and colleagues for a holistic approach to pupil development Contribute to schemes of work, intervention strategies, and school initiatives Promote high standards of behaviour, safety, and wellbeing Participate in break/lunchtime supervision and wider school life, including extracurricular activities Ensure full compliance with safeguarding, behaviour, and health & safety policies Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or Autism Strong understanding of inclusive, trauma-informed, and therapeutic teaching practices Calm, flexible, and empathetic approach to behaviour and classroom management Ability to deliver personalised learning for pupils with complex needs Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills ICT competence to enhance learning Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing Ability to maintain professional boundaries Desirable: Experience in an SEN or alternative provision setting Knowledge of sensory integration, outdoor learning, and creative therapeutic approaches Experience supporting pupils with communication, emotional, or behavioural challenges Passion for innovative, holistic educational practice Experience contributing to extracurricular or enrichment activities Benefits: Competitive salary, dependent on experience Term-time only contract (Monday–Friday) with variable finish times, potential to go permanent Participation in 6 seminar (INSET) days per year Extensive CPD opportunities including SEN-specific and therapeutic training Supportive, creative, and collaborative team culture Chance to play a key role in a growing, dynamic SEN provision Opportunity to make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of young people with complex needs
