A vacancy has arisen for a Trust Grade Doctor in Critical Care at University Hospitals Dorset Trust to support the continuing expansion of the critical care service. The successful applicant will provide full shift cover (i.e., days, weekends, nights) with support from an SpR/Staff grade anaesthetist. They will be assigned a consultant clinical supervisor, with opportunities for theatre experience for those interested in anaesthesia. The role offers opportunities for career development, audit, and research, which the department will support, but it is primarily a service post. The candidate will be expected to attend and deliver departmental teaching. Gaining suitable experience in critical care medicine to apply for a training programme is encouraged. There are also opportunities for teaching and simulation for junior doctors, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary critical care team.
* Daily review of patients on the critical care unit, both morning and evening, with formulation of management plans with the critical care team.
* Participation in daily ICU ward rounds and handovers.
* Support the critical care team with patient admissions and ward reviews.
* Gain experience and competency with critical care procedures such as arterial and central line insertions.
* Order investigations and prescribe therapies as instructed by the critical care team.
* Communicate and hand over with parent teams.
* Make referrals to other clinical specialties.
* Participate in departmental Clinical Governance and mortality review meetings.
