We are currently recruiting…

A Library Assistant to work at Colne Library. This is a permanent role, and you will work an average of 18 hours per week which will include some evenings and weekends, over a two-week rota (see attached rota)

Lancashire Libraries are a vital service that provide spaces where people can feel safe and secure, where generations of all ages can meet freely in a public place and where learning can be encouraged.

Lancashire libraries aim to provide access for everyone to quality resources, knowledgeable and customer-focused staff, and a welcoming library space.

Your new role…

We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer focussed and digitally savvy individual to work within our team. Our ideal person will be welcoming and friendly, have a love for reading and be passionate about sharing this. You will have excellent communication and digital skills, be able to work with a range of partners and volunteers and be able to deliver a customer focused service.

You will work with a team in offering a high-quality library and information service and you will support the planning and the delivery of a diverse range of events and activities. You will support and encourage customers to access online information and resources, for example accessing free eBooks and newspaper apps or helping someone find reliable information, such as applying for a passport.

Sometimes, you will need to work at other locations and the role may involve some lone working.

What we can offer you…

Benefits: You will have access to a local government pension, 26 days annual leave, increasing to 32 days after five years (pro rata) plus Bank Holidays. You will also have access to an Employee Assistance Program, a credit union, counselling services, enhancements for working weekend hours, discounts on phone contracts, gym, and lots more!

Development: We really support our teams and encourage them to develop their skills in a supportive and inclusive environment – so there'll be options for additional training, qualifications, and opportunities to progress if you wish – you'll feel valued at work and be part of a team of like-minded people and managers who can provide advice and guidance whilst sharing their experiences and helping you build your own

Inclusivity: We are committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce. Our aim is to ensure that everyone is equally valued and respected, and where individual differences are celebrated. To support this, we would especially welcome applications from those from a diverse background who would enhance our service by joining us and we have some great support groups and forums available that are open to everyone.

We encourage all applicants to visit any Lancashire Library to see what is on offer.
