About the role
The post holder will work alongside the Mechanical Maintenance team and will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of a wide range of mechanical plant, equipment, and systems across the University. This will be under the direction of the Maintenance Manager (Mechanical) and/or a delegated Supervisor, ensuring that University buildings remain operational to support the delivery of core business functions.
Key responsibilities include carrying out reactive, planned, and cyclical maintenance works as directed by the Maintenance Manager (Mechanical), Maintenance Supervisor(s), or via the maintenance management system (PLANON). The post holder will update and report task progress through the mobile workflow system (PLANON), ensuring work tickets are fully completed and closed promptly, while proactively identifying and reporting defects when moving between tasks or buildings. You will update the Maintenance Supervisor or EFCD Helpdesk on current workload and communicate any issues that may impact task completion within agreed SLAs.
The role also involves promoting good health and safety practices and maintaining a high standard of housekeeping, including recognising and reporting hazards or emergencies. You will comply with the University's statutory compliance policies, adhere to relevant risk assessments, and undertake basic checks to ensure that buildings, services, plant, and equipment are fit for purpose, reporting defects to the line manager as required. The post holder will use personal protective equipment, tools, power tools, access equipment, and testing equipment safely, ensuring all items are maintained and stored correctly.
This is a campus-based role, Monday to Friday, 8.45am–4.30pm, reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager.
