We currently have a permanent vacancy for a System Engineer with experience in defining large‑scale systems, services, and applications within a mission‑critical systems/services integration environment. Applicants must have SC clearance. The successful candidate will support the execution of systems‑engineering activities on a large‑scale system‑of‑systems integration project. The role will include producing a variety of engineering artefacts and, importantly, working with operational users, stakeholders and architects to define text‑based and model‑based requirements, architecture and design artefacts. This is an opportunity to work on an exciting programme delivering critical services and infrastructure key to the future of UK Air Traffic Management. The role can be mainly done remotely, but regular commuting to Whiteley (near Portsmouth) will be required.
Responsibilities
* Technical delivery and team leading of a significant portion of engineering activity of the assigned programme
* Defining and leading the engineering life cycle, ensuring all engineering tasks in the defined scope of work are delivered appropriately
* Working with operational stakeholders, technology suppliers and architects to define system‑of‑systems level requirements
* Allocating requirements to lower‑level services and conducting technical derivation analysis as required
* Modelling functional requirements and scenarios inside MBSE and architectural framework approaches
* Capturing non‑functional requirements within DOORS
* Managing compliance assessments at systems‑of‑systems, system and lower‑level system & service levels
* Overseeing development of lower‑level designs corresponding to owned areas of the system
* Delivering milestone technical reviews and associated work‑product deliverables
* Defining architectural solutions comprising multiple underpinning COTS and bespoke designs and driving the competitive selection of these technologies
* Modelling operational, business and system behaviours within architectural views
* Conducting cost/benefit/technical trade studies
* Producing detailed engineering artefacts
Tools & Frameworks
* Strong experience with architecture modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect and MagicDraw Cameo
* Strong experience with architecture modelling frameworks and languages such as TOGAF, MODAF, NAF, SysML, Archimate
Qualifications
* Prior experience as a Systems Engineer on a major programme involving acceptance and integration of supplier deliveries
* Demonstrable success within a systems‑engineering environment
* Experience of developing system behavioural diagrams, modelling interfaces, and encapsulating functional requirements in models
* Proven ability to conduct detailed systems‑engineering trade studies to assess options, feasibility and define optimal solutions
* In‑depth experience of conducting compliance and regulatory assessments at multiple system levels
* Experience in virtualised environments and Service‑Oriented Architectures
* Excellent customer‑facing skills with the ability to ingest large volumes of requirements and develop clear understanding of customer needs
* Knowledge of adjacent disciplines such as programme management, customer relationship management, supplier management and service management
Desired Skills
* ITIL knowledge, including service‑management roles and processes
* Knowledge of air‑traffic management or other safety‑related systems
* Commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practices
* Experience of service management, assurance and regulatory requirements across functional boundaries
* Willingness to propose innovative or unconventional approaches
* Ability to deliver clear messages through dialogue, written work and formal presentation
Location and Clearance
SC clearance required. The role can be performed remotely but will require regular commuting to Whiteley (near Portsmouth).
Pay Range
£60,100.00 – £77,000.00
