Learning Support Assistant – Specialist Autism Provision Location: Barry, Vale of Glamorgan Start Date: April 2026 Placement: Until July 2027 Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:10 – 15:10 (Term Time Only) Pay: £93 per day About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive Autism Base within a secondary school in Barry. This is a full-time, term-time position where you will spend your entire day within the specialist base and have access to mainstream lessons, supporting pupils aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated mental health needs. The role offers the opportunity to work closely on a 1-1 basis providing tailored support both academically and emotionally in a structured, nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities Support pupils aged 11–16 with ASD and additional mental health needs within the specialist base Assist a student with learning activities up to GCSE level Support a pupil with emotional regulation and wellbeing throughout the school day Take part in engaging activities including colouring, drawing, cooking, and life skills tasks Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider support team to create a positive and inclusive learning environment Requirements Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) Previous experience working with children, individuals with learning difficulties, or within care/support roles A patient, empathetic, and supportive approach Ability to build positive relationships with young people Strong communication and teamwork skills What We Offer A full-time, stable role within a well-established and supportive Autism Base The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people A friendly and collaborative school environment Consistent hours: Monday–Friday, 08:10–15:10 (term time only) This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional learning needs and looking to gain valuable experience in a specialist educational setting.
