Conditions of Service
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year.
All successful applicants will undergo the following checks:

Salary
You will be paid an hourly rate for every hour of work, which includes elements for 'other duties' such as marking, preparation, assessment, and attendance at meetings outside class contact time.
Teaching Qualification
Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of appointment. The College delivers this course in-house, and attendance is required on-site.
Please note: While obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, funding depends on the College's annual CPD budget, and cannot be guaranteed. Student loan facilities are available.
Maths and English
All staff must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If not already obtained, these qualifications must be obtained during employment.
Safeguarding
The College is committed to safeguarding and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All new staff will undertake safeguarding training after appointment.
All staff will read and understand Part 1 of the 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' guidance during induction.
Online Checks
Shortlisted candidates and successful applicants will undergo online checks before a formal offer of employment. Consent was requested at application.
Validation of Qualifications
The College will verify essential qualifications by contacting the issuing institution.
Hours of Work
This is a variable hours contract. Work hours may vary weekly and monthly, with prior discussion and notice.
Annual Leave
Entitlement is proportional to a full-time academic staff member's 37 days plus 8 bank/public holidays and college-specific days, from 1 August to 31 July.
Pensions Scheme
The College offers the 'Teachers Pensions' occupational pension scheme.
Probationary Period
All new staff serve a 9-month probation, completing induction and mandatory training, including Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security, and Health & Safety. Failure to complete these may hinder successful probation.
References
Two satisfactory references are required before the end of probation for successful completion.
Location
The role is based at Heart of Worcestershire College but may require work at other locations.
Recruitment of Ex-Offenders
The College is committed to fair treatment and uses the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) to assess suitability. Applicants must declare unspent convictions or cautions, with certain protections under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Disclosure & Barring Check
Successful applicants will pay for and complete a DBS check, with costs deducted from their first salary. The College follows DBS policies for handling disclosures.
Training
All new staff must undertake necessary training, including Health and Safety.
No Smoking Policy
The College is a smoke-free environment, prohibiting all forms of smoking and vaping products.
