This is an exciting new role to support the development, implementation, and on-going delivery of animal welfare assessments and related projects and research at Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park.
It is initially offered on a part time, fixed term basis.
How you you’ll contribute to our mission:
The Curatorial Assistant will undertake reviews, research and analysis on subject matters and data required by the Curator to support the development, implementation, and on-going delivery of animal welfare assessments and related projects and research for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS).
Some of the things you’ll do:
Support the development, implementation, and on-going delivery of animal welfare assessments and related projects and research for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS).
Assists with the analysis and management of welfare assessment data and welfare action plan datasets
Undertake literature reviews and research on subject matters required by the Curator to support the development, implementation, and on-going support of welfare science at RZSS.?
Contribute to the?RZSS animal keeper development framework adhering to the zoological collections and industry best practice, law, protocols and procedures in relation to animal husbandry, welfare, transportation and work health and safety.???
Establishes and continuously evolves a range of support processes and accurate record keeping systems to ensure agreed standards are met or exceeded?
What we’re looking for:
Educated to degree level (Zoology or relevant subject) or equivalent experience.
Professional qualification meeting the requirements of the European Professional Zookeepers Qualification Framework
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - producing minutes of meetings and draft/edit written documents and correspondence independently.
Proficient in the use of ZIMS
Experience of critical analysis of animal welfare data.
Experience of finding practical solutions to animal welfare challenges.
