Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias)
Location: Wigton, Cumbria
Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday (Shift Pattern)
Salary: Up to £46,000 per annum (including shift allowance)
We are currently recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Wigton. This is a hands-on and varied role within the engineering team, focused on maintaining plant equipment, improving processes, and ensuring high levels of operational performance across the site.
The role involves both electrical and mechanical responsibilities, offering an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys fault-finding, continuous improvement, and working within a fast-paced production environment.
Key responsibilities
Maintenance and engineering support
• Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on plant and equipment
• Responding to breakdowns and restoring machinery within set timeframes
• Ensuring machinery operates efficiently to meet production targets
• Maintaining detailed maintenance records and updating internal systems
• Escalating ongoing issues affecting downtime or performance
• Supporting continuous improvement and equipment optimisation
Electrical and mechanical duties
• Performing electrical maintenance in line with safety and compliance standards
• Supporting mechanical maintenance tasks where required
• Assisting with the installation, modification, and upgrade of machinery
• Ensuring all work meets regulatory and hazardous area requirements
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship across all engineering activities
Process improvement and project work
• Contributing to projects aimed at improving production efficiency
• Analysing breakdown and maintenance data to improve reliability
• Supporting modifications to plant and equipment to increase output
• Working collaboratively with the wider engineering and production teams
• Taking part in both team-based and individual project work
About you
• Engineering qualification (HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent)
• Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
• Good understanding of electrical systems and industrial equipment
• Basic mechanical knowledge or willingness to develop these skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Proactive and flexible approach to work
• Awareness of health, safety, and compliance standards
