Theatre Practitioner/ODP - Anaesthetic Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of our Anaesthetic Nurse/ Operating Department practitioner team.

We are looking for experienced Anaesthetic nurse/Operating Department practitioner to join our operating theatre team in Scarborough. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within our theatre team and deliver a high standard of care to our patients.

Cross site cover required at Bridlington Hospital

To be successful in your application, you will need to be able to demonstrate 3 years' experience in operating theatres.

A little bit about the role - Our elective service currently covers Monday-Friday (Saturday in ophthalmology) and runs alongside the acute service, covering 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day.

Our areas are committed to providing a high standard of care across both Scarborough and Bridlington Hospital sites. There are two theatres in Bridlington who undertake elective procedures covering the surgical specialties of: orthopaedics, general surgery, maxillofacial, ENT, gynaecological, urology and pain services. At Scarborough we provide both elective and acute care which covers a 24 hour service. There are six theatres which cover the specialties of orthopaedic trauma, general surgery, gynaecology, urology, vascular, maxillofacial, ophthalmology and obstetrics.

Our Operating department practitioners and anaesthetic nurses also utilise their skills outside the theatre department, within ICU and A&E resus areas.

You will be given an 8 week supernumerary period and will work with our clinical educators to gain experience and training in any specialties you are not familiar with and complete a skills book to demonstrate this.


Main duties of the job

* Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures
* Maintain a safe and clean working environment
* Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
* Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
* Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient
* Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and HCPC standard of proficiency for Operating Department Practitioners
* Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands
* Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures
* Education and Training

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Level 1) or qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HPC registration or Anaesthetic Nurse (ENB 182/183 or equivalent)
* Teaching qualification
* Willingness to train as a mentor


Knowledge

* Demonstrate awareness of current issues in health care
* Demonstrate awareness of NHS standards of Professional Practice
* Previous theatre experience at Band 5
