HGV Mechanic/ Heavy Vehicle Technician Location: Kilmarnock, UKSalary: £50,000 £55,000 per annumJob Type: PermanentThe Opportunity The company is currently seeking an experienced and qualified HGV Mechanic to join their team based in Kilmarnock. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on a fleet of vans, trucks, and trailers to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational at all times.This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated mechanic seeking a long-term permanent position within a fast-paced commercial vehicle environment.Key Responsibilities: Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs, vans, trucks, and trailersDiagnose mechanical and electrical faults efficientlyConduct inspections and preventative maintenance checksComplete MOT preparation work and ensure vehicles meet DVSA standardsRepair and replace defective parts and componentsMaintain accurate service and repair recordsEnsure all work is completed safely and in line with health & safety regulationsWork effectively both independently and as part of a teamSupport breakdown and emergency repair work when requiredRequired Experience: Minimum 2 years relevant experience working as an HGV Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle TechnicianExperience working on commercial vehicles including vans, trucks, and trailersStrong diagnostic and fault-finding abilitiesGood understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair proceduresWorking Hours & Shift Pattern: Average to 48 hour working week across shift patterns.Company Operational Hours: Monday: 7:00am 7:00pmTuesday to Friday: 24-hour operationSaturday: Rotational shift operationSalary and Benefits: £50,000 £55,000 per annum28 days holiday including bank holidaysCompany van provided (optional if required for travelling)Uniform providedPermanent, stable employmentOpportunity to work within a busy commercial vehicle workshop environmentSkills & Attributes: Strong mechanical knowledge and practical skillsAbility to work efficiently under pressureGood communication and teamwork skillsReliable, punctual, and safety consciousFlexible approach to working hours and shift patternsQualifications Preferred: Candidates should ideally hold one or more of the following:Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & RepairLevel 2 or Level 3 City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle MaintenanceIMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) Heavy Vehicle qualificationsApprenticeship in HGV / Commercial Vehicle MaintenanceGCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English preferredTPBN1_UKTJ
