Ecommerce Director
Location: Kingswinford, West Midlands
Salary: £65,000–£85,000 + performance bonus
Job Type: Full-time, primarily office-based
About Royal Bathrooms
Royal Bathrooms is a fast-growing, profitable, founder-led multichannel £10M+ bathroom retailer with ambitious growth plans.
We sell through our own website and multiple marketplaces, and we are now entering the next stage of scale. Our focus is not just on growing revenue, but on improving customer experience, strengthening commercial execution, building better systems, and scaling in a structured way.
We already have established ecommerce and marketing teams in place. We are now hiring a senior in-house leader to take ownership of both functions, improve standards, and help drive the next phase of growth.
The Role
We are hiring an Ecommerce Director to take ownership of ecommerce performance across website, marketplaces and marketing, with the primary focus on our own website experience, customer journey, conversion and commercial execution.
This is a senior, hands-on role inside a scaling retail business. You will work closely with established UK and overseas teams, so experience leading cross-functional or remote teams is valuable. You will lead through an existing Head of Marketing and Head of Ecommerce, while also being prepared to get into the detail yourself when needed.
You will be expected to improve standards, set direction, introduce better processes and useful automation, and take real ownership of execution. This is not a role for someone who wants to sit above the business and advise from a distance.
This role is only suitable for candidates who have
* Personally improved ecommerce performance inside a meaningful ecommerce business
* Strong in-house experience across ecommerce trading, customer journey, conversion and merchandising
* The ability to lead existing teams while still being willing to work hands-on where needed
* Strong commercial judgement on what to fix first and how to prioritise for growth
* Experience improving performance across multiple channels, not just one function in isolation
What you will own
* Overall ecommerce performance across website and marketplaces
* Website customer journey, conversion, merchandising and commercial presentation
* Category structure, navigation, product presentation, templates and on-site standards
* Marketplace direction, including sales targets, listing quality, brand consistency and performance oversight
* Marketing direction and performance through the Head of Marketing, with clear focus on commercial outcomes rather than activity for its own sake
* Email / CRM performance, including supporting the development of our Trade Programme
* Launch and rollout of new growth initiatives such as a Design Service
* Better team rhythm, accountability, reporting and process across ecommerce and marketing
* Introduction of useful SaaS, automation and workflow improvements where they genuinely improve speed and quality
What success looks like in this role
In the first 12 months, success would look like:
* A noticeably stronger website experience and clearer customer journey
* Improved category structure, merchandising standards and product presentation
* Better conversion focus across the ecommerce team
* Stronger oversight and direction across marketplaces
* Better use of CRM / email as a commercial growth channel
* Clear progress on Trade Programme and Design Service
* A more structured, accountable ecommerce and marketing function
* Reducing founder involvement in routine ecommerce and marketing oversight by creating clearer ownership and better execution
What we are looking for
* Strong in-house ecommerce leadership experience in a multichannel retail business
* Evidence of improving website performance through better CX, merchandising, navigation, content and conversion work
* Experience leading established or long-tenured teams and raising standards through process, prioritisation and accountability
* Commercial understanding of how website, marketplaces, email and marketing should work together
* Confidence to take ownership and make decisions rather than escalating everything upward
* Experience introducing systems, SaaS tools or automation to improve execution
* Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to create structure without creating bureaucracy
* Comfortable operating in a founder-led business where pace, ownership and judgement matter
What this role is not
* Not a remote-first or lightly involved leadership role
* Not an agency-management position
* Not suitable for candidates who are looking to manage mainly through agencies.
* Not a pure brand marketing role
* Not a paid media specialist role
* Not a reporting-only or presentation-led role
* Not suitable for candidates who need the founder to drive execution for them
Why join Royal Bathrooms
* A senior role with real ownership and room to shape the function
* Direct influence over website growth, marketplaces and commercial direction
* A business that is already profitable and scaling
* Established teams in place, with real opportunity to improve structure and standards
* The chance to make a visible impact in a growing multichannel retail business
