Rector of the Benefice of Buckrose Carrs, York
We are searching for a leader who can further release the gifts that God has blessed us with. To help to build His Church in these communities. Are you that leader?
We are a benefice of five rural parishes located along the A64 between the busy market town of Malton and the East Coast resort of Scarborough. The uplands of the beautiful North York Moors are to the north and the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds to the south. Although there are nine church buildings within the benefice, only six are used on a regular basis.
We are a welcoming and friendly community, keen to put our diocesan vision of ‘Living Christ’s Story’ into action. We organize a number of community activities to provide outreach into the community and a network of support to all; the church building often the only community building in the village. Our active Benefice Council represents all our parishes, while the five PCCs deal with local issues.
Things we want to work on:
* raising the profile of the churches within each parish by being a visible presence, supporting local projects so the community sees the Church, not just as a building, but as a relevant and vibrant part of the community.
* reaching out to the communities we serve through a variety of ‘Fresh Expressions’ which meet the needs of each community and through the resources of social media.
* capitalizing on the strong links with each of the schools and developing contacts with the families through the Home-School Links.
* developing more ways to reach the older members of the community and the house-bound.
* further utilising our churches and church rooms and halls, as often the only public buildings in the villages, to reach out and offer new ways of engaging with our community.
* strengthening links with the other parishes in our benefice and neighbouring benefices and working more closely together for the same aims.
We are seeking a priest who:
* Loves Jesus and will make him known in these communities
* Will be alongside to encourage us in our personal spiritual growth and discipleship.
* Is a team developer, keen to discern and release the gifts that God has blessed us with; understands that we are all ready to serve, to witness and help to build His Church in these communities.
* Is a visible presence within the villages and enthusiastic to participate in village events and bring these communities together; who sees church as being in the community and not just in the building.
* Is someone who will actively listen to the needs of these communities; someone people relate to and know they can turn to.
* In a Benefice of 9 distinct communities, is comfortable and supportive in delivering a wide range and styles of worship to suit all ages.
* Has the gentle powers of persuasion, innovation and prayer to guide us through the changes that lie ahead.
The Diocese of York
Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people - lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:
* Becoming more like Christ
* Reaching those we currently don't
* Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers
* Transforming our finances and structures
Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.
Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.
Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
