Purpose of the role



Colas Ltd. have an exciting opportunity for a Asset Inspector to join the team on a 12 month FTC basis. The role will be based at our Portsmouth depot, PO6 1TA. this is an opportunity to join a dedicated team within the Portsmouth PFI business unit, supporting the ongoing management and maintenance of the city’s highway network. Reporting directly to the Asset Manager, the Asset Inspector plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, safety, and reliability of highway asset data across the network.


Main Responsibilities



As an Asset Inspector, you will be responsible for carrying out detailed service inspections and validating asset inventory information, ensuring that all data aligns with GIS-based records. You will undertake site investigations, respond to asset enquiries, and support proactive maintenance by auditing inventory and confirming service inspection requirements. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining high standards across the network, ensuring all operations are completed with a strong commitment to health and safety for yourself, colleagues, and the public.


Ideal Candidate



The ideal candidate will have experience or a strong interest in highway inspections and asset management, with an understanding of visual condition surveys and UKPMS standards. While prior knowledge of surfacing materials and highway maintenance principles is desirable, full training will be provided to develop your expertise so we are open to applications for those who would like a career change and are willing to work on their own and in all weather conditions. You will be confident using Microsoft Word and Excel, with solid ICT skills and a clear understanding of health and safety practices in a field-based environment.
