Design Engineer (Remote)
This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a good technical background and demonstrable experience in producing foundations or geotechnical-based designs within the power T&D sector, including OHL or steel pylons and towers. Occasional presence in the Midlands office, with work from home flexibility.
Our client, experiencing continued expansion and a strong project pipeline, seeks a Design Engineer to support the design aspects across their full range of techniques and disciplines within the power T&D division. This includes projects involving high voltage (HV), extra high voltage (EHV), overhead line (OHL) steel lattice towers, and pylons carrying overhead power lines and cables.
The ideal candidate will review enquiry documentation to identify key project considerations, demonstrating enthusiasm, drive, and a high level of technical skill coupled with a passion for ground engineering. A professional approach, keen eye for detail, and excellent communication and IT skills are essential.
The Person
* Experience in designing piles and foundations using appropriate software packages.
* Experience with designing piling works across various techniques, disciplines, and complexities.
* Ability to work independently and communicate complex technical information clearly, both in writing and verbally.
* Enthusiastic, results-focused, capable of working under pressure and meeting strict deadlines.
* Effective negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
The Role
* Understand and deliver client requirements, liaising with designers, clients, and main contractors to optimize engineering solutions.
* Select appropriate piling and foundation techniques based on ground conditions.
* Conduct geotechnical analysis using in-house and commercial software, preparing reports for client submission and addressing technical queries.
* Prepare settlement reports for review and participate in meetings.
* Develop contract design documents, drawings, and schedules.
* Be aware of risks including health & safety, geotechnical, and commercial aspects.
* Support the operation team during installation and produce as-built documentation post-construction.
* Build long-term relationships with clients to promote repeat business.
* Respond to client requests and collaborate with other business units to achieve shared goals.
