SOFEA, established in 2014, is a charity focused on helping individuals transform their lives. Headquartered in Didcot with a branch in Milton Keynes, SOFEA utilizes surplus food to support thousands of people weekly across local communities. The organization empowers disadvantaged individuals, particularly young people, by providing opportunities to gain English and Math qualifications, acquire work experience, and access wellbeing support. SOFEA also engages with the community through corporate volunteering and fundraising events to further its impact.
Role Description
This part-time role is based on-site at SOFEA's Milton Keynes location. The English Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons, designing lesson plans, and tailoring instruction to support diverse learning needs. The role also involves mentoring students, assessing their progress, and contributing to the success of SOFEA's programs aimed at helping individuals build valuable skills and confidence through education.
Qualifications
* Strong skills in English Teaching and general Teaching abilities.
* Experience in Lesson Planning and developing effective educational strategies.
* A background in Education and demonstrated understanding of student learning needs.
* Excellent Communication skills for explaining concepts clearly and engaging with students.
* Patience, compassion, and a commitment to assisting students in achieving their goals.
* Teaching certifications or qualifications in English or Education are highly desirable.
Skills and Expertise
* Qualified Teacher with the ability to deliver English successfully at Functional Skills and GCSE level.
* Respect for learners and an interest in helping them develop both academically and as people.
* Excellent communication skills for working with disaffected learners, learners with disabilities and their parents/carers.
* The ability to adapt to teaching other areas such as Life Skills
* The capacity to learn quickly.
* Strong organisational skills.
* The ability to inspire and enthuse young people.
* Energy, resourcefulness and patience.
* A caring nature and an understanding of the needs and feelings of young people who have had poor life experiences.
* Experience working with young people who haven’t progressed in mainstream education would be advantageous.
* The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
* A sense of humour and the ability to keep things in perspective.
