The role
As a Source to Contract Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role will be a part of Mission Systems’ Space Business Unit supporting the MOD’s SkyNet - Satellite Communications System.
Day-to-day, you’ll leading sourcing initiatives that support both current operations and business growth and, to manage large sub-contracts. This role is pivotal in shaping sourcing strategies, supporting customer-driven change proposals, and managing supplier relationships.
1. Develop and execute the Space Supply Chain sourcing strategy in line with the business units’ long-term goals and future capability requirements.
2. Support early procurement engagement during programme bids and mobilisation phases.
3. Lead procurement input and impact analysis for customer change requests and contract amendments.
4. Coordinate cross-functional assessments to evaluate cost, delivery, and commercial factors.
5. Negotiate and administer supplier contracts and ensure alignment with programme delivery.
6. Own end-to-end management of major subcontracts.
7. Ensure sourcing decisions comply with internal governance, policies, and delegated authorities.
8. Lead sourcing governance reviews and provide procurement updates to programme boards and senior stakeholders.
This role is full time, thirty-seven hours per week and requires regular travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Source to Contract Manager
9. Experience in developing and delivering large strategic sourcing activities that have delivered significant value for the customer and business.
10. Ability to demonstrate a curious and inventive mind set to create sourcing strategies.
11. Demonstrable experience in a procurement role ideally in a Defence or Engineering environment.
12. Experience in managing major subcontracts and suppliers.
13. Strong knowledge of commercial negotiation, contracts, and supplier performance management.
14. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to work cross-functionally.
15. Proficiency in procurement systems and strategic sourcing tools.
Qualifications for the Source to Contract Manager
16. Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Law, or related discipline.
17. Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIPS is advantageous but not essential.
