School Staff Nurse

The School Staff Nurse role is a varied and rewarding position requiring travel across school sites, colleges, and Family Hubs throughout North Kent. The successful applicant will provide support to children, young people, and their families, delivering high-quality, public health-focused care within educational and community settings.
School Staff Nurses are expected to embody KCHFT's CARE values in all aspects of their practice, providing timely support while maintaining respect, compassion, and delivering differentiated care based on individual need. School Staff Nurses must be well organised, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and possess strong IT skills to support both virtual and face‑to‑face service delivery. The role requires the ability to manage workload effectively while working collaboratively with families, educational professionals, and wider multidisciplinary teams to promote positive health outcomes.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
* Conducting telephone assessments with parents and carers to explore the health needs of children and young people.
* Providing evidence‑based, preventative health and wellbeing advice tailored to individual needs.
* Visiting schools to work with large groups of students at scheduled intervals.
* Presenting and supporting the delivery of a commissioned health and wellbeing questionnaire to identify young people who may require additional support.
* Delivering webinars to large groups of teaching staff using online software platforms, promoting safe management of asthma, anaphylaxis, and epilepsy within school settings.
* Identifying children and young people who may require further intervention and facilitating appropriate follow‑up or referrals.
This role requires excellent communication and presentation skills, confidence in both face‑to‑face and virtual delivery, and the ability to work collaboratively with educational staff and families to promote positive health outcomes and ensure safe care within schools.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Training and Experience
* Registered health care professional with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
* You will have a Level 6 Degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience plus a diploma in nursing alongside recent experience of healthcare gained through education, work experience or previous employment.
Knowledge and Skills
* You will need to have sound communication skills in order to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing and have a customer focussed approach in order to provide the best experience for clients and families. You will be required to regularly work together with multi‑agency professionals and teams across the Trust.
* You will be able to use IT systems and databases, work well under pressure and organise your own work. You will be required to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of developments within the NHS and signpost clients and families to alternative services to support health.
* You will have the ability to focus on the details and notice potential problems, understand when to elevate and be adaptable as part of a wider team. You will have up‑to‑date knowledge of clinical practice, adhering to evidence based procedures and clinical effectiveness frameworks.
Working environment
* A full, valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel independently are essential for this role.
