Senior Support Worker

To work as an integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team supporting service used (who have a primary diagnosis of Learning Disability, history of offending behaviours, and who may experience additional mental Health problems), delivering holistic care and support as part of the Forensic Pathway under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
Main duties of the job
* Uphold the principles of Positive Behaviour Support in all aspects of patient care.
* Participate in delivery of care plans, treatment programmes and training for service users (under direction of qualified staff).
* Maintain strict confidentiality of Service Users' personal information; any requests to disclose information must be relayed to qualified personnel.
* Support service users at reviews, appointments or meetings.
* Assist in promoting a healthy lifestyle, hygiene routines, and general appearance, whilst respecting the service user's choices and beliefs, promoting dignity, respect and privacy where necessary.
* Protect the service users from any form of abuse, whether physical, psychological, financial, sexual or any instance of intimidation. Any suspected abuse must be brought to the attention of the Trust by informing a qualified or senior member of staff.
* Report any untoward occurrences to the appropriate person.
* Support other staff members with day-to-day duties, within your level of competence, providing you have the appropriate training, instructions or skills to undertake the duties.

Person Specification
Experience
* Demonstrate a keen interest caring for others
* Previous experience of caring for patients in a clinical environment
* Previous experience of working as part of a team
* Previous experience of working in secure environments.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 in a related subject.
* NVQ level 3 in related subject or willingness to undertake any training relevant to this role
Knowledge
* Basic understanding of the learning disabilities and mental illness
* Some knowledge or experience of working within guidelines of Mental Health Act
* Understand importance of maintaining confidentiality
Skills/Abilities
* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate effectively both face to face and in writing
* Able to support and reassure patients / carers in distress
* Basic IT skills
