Carcanet is home to the long-running bi-monthly journal PN Review ('The most informative and entertaining poetry journal in the English-speaking world' – John Ashbery). Recent titles have been awarded Nobel, Eliot, Jhalak, Pulitzer, Forward and other prizes and the King’s Gold Medal for Poetry. We also publish essay collections and fiction, our backlist spanning more than five decades.
We are looking for a Marketing and Events Manager who will bring creativity and innovation to the strategic marketing of our list. The successful candidate will have a passion for books and experience in connecting that passion with readers.
Key Duties:
Authors
* Coordinate with authors and contributors to generate creative assets, soliciting contributor questionnaires, blog materials, video content etc.
* Develop and implement marketing campaigns and strategies to meet targets for new titles, including award submissions, and oversee continued marketing for relevant backlist titles. Targeted marketing of review copies and advance bound proofs to media contacts. Collate and share reviews and media attention with our customer base, sales reps and Board members.
* Identify, organise, manage and promote marketing projects and events, including pitching tours and individual books to festivals, and hosting relevant online book launch events. Attend conferences, book fairs and events where appropriate.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts across all channels, including public-facing communications and issuing press releases, along with staying up to date with industry trends and researching new promotional opportunities.
Social Media and Digital Communications
* Create, manage and implement Carcanet’s publicity schedule for all media, including but not limited to social media, weekly e-letters, blog, website etc. Run regular website promotions and organise discount codes, including for authors and events.
* Assist with the maintenance and development of the Carcanet and PN Review websites.
Reporting
* Examine and report on website and social media analytics, using these to inform marketing strategies.
Supervision
* Oversee Carcanet’s annual marketing placement programme, training and managing the successful candidate in their duties.
General
* Ad-hoc duties and administrative tasks.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
* Excellent written and verbal communication, time management and organisational skills
* Enjoy working as part of a team (with Sales and Editorial teams, and with writers, media and book trade)
* Good knowledge of twentieth-century and contemporary poetry
* Understanding of the digital marketing industry
* Understanding of what is necessary in campaign development to reach different readerships for different publications
* Familiar with using ad and email server systems
* Proficient with Microsoft products, primarily Word, Excel and Outlook
* Extremely detail oriented and proactive
* Education to degree level or equivalent
* Knowledge of HTML, CSS, or other coding languages
* Experience in marketing or media agency
