Role Overview
As the Welfare and Safeguarding Officer, you will be responsible for promoting the welfare of our children and safeguarding them from harm. This role requires a proactive individual who can work closely with parents and carers, collaborate with professionals, and engage directly with children to create a safe and supportive environment. Your efforts will contribute significantly to the positive outcomes for our children, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
* Safeguarding and Welfare: Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by implementing and monitoring safeguarding policies and procedures. Be part of our very rigorous safeguarding team, providing guidance and support to staff and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
* Collaboration with Parents/Carers: Build strong relationships with parents and carers to promote their involvement in their children’s education and welfare. Provide support and advice to families, helping them to access relevant services and resources.
* Interdisciplinary Work: Collaborate with external professionals, including social workers, educational psychologists, and health services, to provide comprehensive support for children and families. Attend multi-agency meetings to discuss and address safeguarding concerns and develop action plans.
* Direct Engagement with Children: Work closely with children to understand their needs and concerns. Provide a safe space for children to express themselves and seek help when necessary. Implement programmes and activities that promote emotional well‑being and resilience.
* Training and Development: Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices in safeguarding and welfare. Provide training and support to staff on safeguarding issues and promote a culture of vigilance within the school.
* Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential records of safeguarding concerns and interventions. Prepare reports for senior leadership and external agencies as required, ensuring that all documentation is compliant with legal and statutory obligations.
Person Specification
* Qualifications: A relevant qualification in social work, education, or child development is essential. Experience in a safeguarding role within an educational setting is highly desirable.
* Knowledge: A thorough understanding of safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in practice.
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
* Empathy and Compassion: A genuine passion for supporting children and families, with the ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding in challenging situations.
* Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies, fostering a positive and supportive team environment.
* Resilience: Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to remain calm and composed in high‑pressure situations.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
