The Role
Within the Vote Office, the Procedural Publishing Unit (PPU) is the engine room of parliamentary publishing. Our team delivers a wide range of publications—from daily business papers like the Order Paper and Amendment documents, to the Official Report (Hansard) for both Houses. The work is dynamic, fast-paced, and directly connected to the flow of parliamentary business.
We are looking for a dedicated leader to help steer this vital operation. You’ll provide managerial and technical support to the PPU Publishing team, working with the Publishing Lead (Operations) to oversee Deputy Managers and Publishers.
Some responsibilities include:
* Support the Publishing Lead (Operations), PPU managers and staff involved in publishing activities.
* Ensure the no-fail overnight publishing requirement for all Hansard Daily parts is achieved.
* Monitor and manage the Hansard Bound Volume correction and publishing processes.
* Liaise with the Contiem (CMS supplier) and Parliamentary Digital Service teams to ensure CMS and XML Publishing workflow (NOTUS/XPP) operates effectively and efficiently.
* Work closely with colleagues in the House of Commons and House of Lords Hansard teams to maintain existing relationships.

Skills and Experience
* Experience in using XML-based publishing and document management systems, and XML editors such as Oxygen or Fonto, in a complex environment with a diverse user base. Solid working knowledge of structured data (XML).
* Experience in working shifts and managing teams in a no-fail environment. Ability to learn and apply new processes, procedures, and systems to improve them.
* Able to work collaboratively across teams, using negotiating skills to achieve shared goals, and uphold values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Our Team
The Vote Office publishes crucial parliamentary documents and advises Members on publications. Material we publish is used by MPs in the Chamber daily.
At the House of Commons, we support the smooth day-to-day running of the House with over 3,000 staff delivering professional services to MPs, their staff, and the wider parliamentary community.
