Our 28-bedded Intensive Care Unit and Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) have a dynamic, collaborative and effective MDT approach to patient care. The specialities that we manage include hepatobiliary, upper gastrointestinal, gynae-oncology, urology and maxilla-facial patients together with emergency medical and surgical admissions. Our pro-active Research team co-ordinate the departments involvement in a number of national trials. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for implementing, maintaining and leading the clinical information and support services to ensure the safe effective delivery of Critical Care Digital and Informatics Data, Audit, Reporting systems and electronic patient records. The support services include facilitating and ensuring the collation and maintenance of accurate robust Critical Care audit and data for the directorate or Trust dashboards and ensure timely submission. You will ensure accurate data is submitted to Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC), analyse report findings and make recommendations where necessary to positively influence patient experience and outcomes. This data will also enable the unit to be benchmarked against other units within the United Kingdom. The successful candidate will support Clinical staff, advising on system changes and required data collection. Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for implementing and maintaining Clinical Information and support services to ensure the safe effective delivery of Critical Care IT, Digital and informatics data, audit and reporting systems. The support services include facilitating and ensuring the collation and maintenance of accurate robust Critical Care audit and data and advising Clinical staff of system changes and required data collection. Accountable for the efficient management and delivery of the Critical Care IT services in the clinical environment to ensure continuity of patient care. This role includes the development and maintenance of all Clinical Information Systems (CIS), operational policies and procedures, system audit and liaison with clinical users and third party suppliers. Responsible for the integrity, safe use and security of the CIS databases. Maintaining effective service delivery through the allocation and management of physical resources and responds to evolving clinical service needs. Job responsibilities • To lead and project manage the Critical Care Audit programme and database, currently AcuBase. If applicable to include generating and processing complex physiological and outcome data for all Critical Care patients. • Ensures all data is validated within AcuBase and activity data and clinical data is accurate and robust. • Ensuring timely submission of data to ICNARC (Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre) Case Mix Program (CMP) and other organisations as required e.g. PHE and QISS. Ensure all directorate and Critical Care Network reports are submitted accurately and on time. • Identifying any issues from the reports which might impact on local performance management or clinical outcomes for patients, in conjunction with unit Intensivist and/or Senior Matron. Be able to devise and/or advise any action plans required. • Liaise with finance and information department to ensure CCMDS activity data is accurate and robust. • If applicable provide spreadsheets to monitor activity, performance and collect data for directorate dashboard, monitor results and where necessary liaise with the Senior Matron and/or Clinical Director. • To keep abreast of national developments within Critical Care and data requirements within the Critical Care forum. • Responsible for project managing any new developments in Critical Care audit so that any new technologies are introduced smoothly and effectively. • Participate in any business case required for the introduction of new technologies. • Keep abreast of the Critical Care Minimum Data Set (CCMDS) and Payment by Results (PBR). • Practice within agreed policies of the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust (RSFT) and adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Code of Professional Conduct. • Accountable for the efficient management and delivery of the Critical Care IT service in the clinical environment to ensure continuity of patient care. Including the development and maintenance of the CIS/EPR operational policies and procedures, system audit and liaison with clinical users and third party suppliers. • Responsible for the integrity, safe use and security of the CIS/EPR databases and will have responsibility for the on-going development of the CIS/EPR in order to facilitate best practice in the recording of all data captured within clinical pathways. • SQL reporting and data analysis is expected, in order to help inform clinical decision making, audit and unit performance. • The post holder provides support and management of the IT systems used in Critical Care. • The post holder provides end user training to ICU staff. • The post holder provides first line support of Critical Care IT systems to the ICU staff including possible on-call support. Information Management and Communications • Be able to make judgements when validating data involving highly complex physiological information requiring the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options. This requires an in- depth knowledge of Critical Care to be able to validate complex medical data. • Be responsible for the System Specific Security Policy (SSSP) for AcuBase and keeping it updated and fit for purpose. This includes permitting access if required ensuring IG and GDPR is observed. • Where necessary be responsible for leading and facilitating a staff-training program to ensure high quality audit within Critical Care. • Monitoring and improving where necessary standards of record keeping among the unit MDT staff. • Has a good oversight of all aspects of the critical care information system ensuring that Information Governance is maintained and compliant with the data protection act 2018. • The post holder will work collaboratively with the senior management team addressing both the short term and long term strategic aims of the Critical Care unit. • The post holder will be expected to communicate with external suppliers and other clinical organisations. • Communicate with the wider multi-disciplinary team and clinical staff across the organisation. • Receive and deliver highly complex, confidential and sensitive information. • Provide leadership and guidance to clinical staff involved in information systems, maintains accurate and up to date records. • Demonstrate patient advocacy when appropriate. • Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings. • Develop external networks with peers to share good practice. • Communicating subject matter of a complex nature, such as HL7, an industry standard used by NHS systems for sending data from one computer system to another. • Required to communicate complex technical information on a number of different levels ranging from individuals who are experts in their field, have basic understanding or very little, sometimes requiring interpretation of complex information in to laymans terms. Research and Development • If required participate or advise on Research projects within the Unit/Trust, advise or provide information if available from the Critical Care database. Provide relevant access to Critical Information Systems to facilitate data acquisition for these research projects/trials. • Involved in the design, development and implementation of e-record systems. • Undertakes project management activities as and when required to support implementation of new systems. • Proposes and manages the planning, implementation and maintenance of changes to information systems, upgrades and interfaces within Critical Care. • Produces Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training manuals and instructional material to support efficient and competent use of the systems. • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
