Deputy Sister Dermatology
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialty for a Deputy Sister, Band 6 with 2 years post‑graduate experience. We offer a supportive teamwork structure and an opportunity to further your leadership and management skills.
Responsibilities
* Provide the highest standards of nursing care for patients in dermatology, including light therapy, photodynamic therapy and specialist clinics.
* Work closely with the nursing team, Matron, Deputy Sister and multidisciplinary team (MDT) to develop a highly skilled workforce.
* Act as a role model and teacher during regular clinical sessions, visiting patients in waiting areas to ensure standards of care and patient experience meet expectations.
* Support the Matron in seeking/evaluating appropriate findings to implement evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement of dermatology care.
* Improve and maintain standards of essential nursing care by using clinical benchmarking, clinical audit and professional guidelines.
* Ensure high quality, evidence‑based care is offered to patients; identify common issues affecting quality of care, develop action plans and ensure implementation.
* Ensure appropriate staff numbers and skills are scheduled daily, deploy staff according to skills and experience, and liaise with other MDT members and departments.
* Undertake performance review appraisals annually and facilitate team members’ objectives and personal development plans.
* Manage return‑to‑work sickness/absence reviews in conjunction with the Matron/Deputy Sister.
* Identify hazards related to clinical and non‑clinical risks and conduct risk assessments; promote a culture of governance within the department.
Qualifications
* 2 years post‑graduate nursing experience, preferably in dermatology.
* Band 6 registration.
* Strong leadership and management skills.
* Excellent communication and teaching abilities.
* Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.
* Experience in multidisciplinary team working.
