Practitioner psychologist (clinical, forensic, counselling)

Overview

As part of a multi‑disciplinary team, you will work alongside other qualified psychologists to deliver high‑quality, individualized psychological services, including assessment, formulation, psycho‑educational interventions and training. You will work autonomously under the guidance of your clinical lead, within the service’s policies and procedures, and will be responsible for report writing, risk assessment, clinical administration and data analysis.


Responsibilities

* Undertake psychological assessments of service users using psychometric tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi‑structured interviews with users, families and other professionals.
* Facilitate consultation and formulation of complex cases with multidisciplinary staff groups.
* Participate in the formulation and delivery of action plans for patients’ psychological problems.
* Lead the delivery and evaluation of group treatment programmes.
* Develop a psychologically based framework of understanding and care for all service users across all settings.
* Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings.
* Carry out report writing and risk assessments, and complete clinically related administration.
* Support data analysis and use of SPSS and Excel to evaluate services.


Teaching, Training & Supervision

* Receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
* Gain broader experience of professional psychology within the NHS, beyond the principal service area.
* Develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
* Contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care, especially in areas related to offending behaviours, learning disabilities, mental health and personality disorder.


Management, Recruitment & Service Development

* Assist in the design and implementation of service development projects.
* Attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.
* Maintain personal record keeping, process and store data and take and transcribe minutes where appropriate.
* Ensure that all databases related to the service area are maintained satisfactorily.


Research & Service Evaluation

* Lead the design and implementation of audit and research projects related to assessment and treatment.
* Lead service evaluation projects to assess group programmes.
* Collect and analyse data using SPSS and Excel.
* Search evidence‑based literature to inform evidence‑based practice.
* Produce audit and research reports for local and national dissemination.


Qualifications

* HCPC‑registered practitioner psychologist (clinical, forensic or counselling).
* MSc in Forensic Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society.
* Honours degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1).
* Experience of working with individuals with complex needs – personality disorder, intellectual disability, mental illness, neurodiversity, and forensic issues.
* Experience across a range of settings including probation, prison, inpatient services and community services.
* Good knowledge of psychological theories, psychometric assessment, cognitive‑behavioural therapy or other counselling models.
* Proficiency in psychological assessment, report writing and formulation.
* Proficiency in research including sampling, qualitative and quantitative data collection and statistical analysis.
* Proficiency in keyboard skills, word processing and internet/email use.
* Experience in the use of HCR‑20 and working in a forensic setting.
* Experience working with people with personality disorder and learning disability.
* Suitable UK professional registration and UK right to work (Skilled Worker visa requirement).
