Overview
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Avon and Somerset is looking to recruit a new volunteer to the Joint Audit Committee (JAC). The work of the committee includes advising on good governance, providing assurance on management systems and risk assessment of the OPCC and police force, and reviewing financial and non-financial reports for compliance. The JAC is a voluntary role but attracts an annual payment of £2,000 plus expenses.
Responsibilities
* Advising the OPCC and Chief Constable on good governance.
* Providing independent assurance on management systems and risk assessment of the OPCC and police force.
* Providing independent scrutiny and reviewing financial and non-financial reports to assess compliance.
* Overseeing the annual financial reporting process.
* Overseeing the internal and external audit functions, and scrutiny of audit plans and audit reports.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people who can question strategic plans and processes in place which are designed to hold the police force to account. You do not need to be financial or accounting professionals, but a genuine interest in ensuring we have an efficient and effective police force and the ability to provide a strategic external perspective is invaluable to the scrutiny required for these roles.
What we can offer you
These roles are part time and voluntary; however, they are paid roles and attract an annual payment of £2,000 plus expenses. Members of the Joint Audit Committee will need to commit to between 4-6 meetings per year, which can be conducted online/virtually in most cases. Training for the role and an induction to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner will also be provided.
