Role Summary
The Bail Information Officer (BIO) has a varied, diverse, time‑critical and demand‑led role. Working with defendants and key criminal justice stakeholders—including the Judiciary, legal professionals, police, probation, voluntary sector and statutory support services—BIOs gather information to produce factual and objective reports in preparation for bail hearings at Magistrates and Crown courts. BIOs also prepare and suggest effective bail packages, proactively make relevant referrals to the Community Accommodation Service (CAS) Tier 2 accommodation and any other appropriate support services, conduct safeguarding enquiries, and undertake specialised training as required. This is a non‑operational role with no line‑management responsibilities, reporting to a designated manager within a BIS region.
Key Responsibilities
* Gather information from defendants and stakeholders.
* Produce factual and objective reports for bail hearings.
* Prepare and suggest effective bail packages.
* Proactively refer defendants to CAS Tier 2 accommodation and other support services.
* Conduct safeguarding enquiries.
* Complete additional specialised training.
* Engage with defendants both in person and virtually within working hours (07:00‑19:00, Monday‑Friday).
Working Arrangements
The role is based on site at your base location with some travel to other sites as required. Working hours are 37 hours per week (07:00‑19:00, Monday‑Friday). Hybrid working arrangements may be available where business need allows, but the role must be performed in the UK.

* Current or willing to become NPS employee for up to 2 years if required.
* Demonstrated experience in the criminal justice system (preferred).
