Avensis Support works with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. We currently have 11 homes, each with 4-8 beds, across Greater Manchester and one in Bradford. Our service users are looked-after children aged 16-18 years old.
We are seeking weekend and evening staff for our 24/7 operation as staff on-site.
The post holder will contribute to improving the independent skills, education, employment, and training prospects of the service users to help them achieve the best possible outcomes in life.
Responsibilities include supporting the Named Key Workers/Team Leaders, assisting with tasks such as filling forms, opening bank accounts, registering with the Refugee Council/Red Cross, applying for bus passes, college bursary forms, solicitor registration, and supporting young people according to checklists.
Promote the development of service users' independence and life skills through physical and emotional support.
Assist service users in accessing health, education, training, or legal services.
Ensure homes are well-maintained, encourage cleanliness, and report repairs needed.
Maintain good presentation and cleanliness in the home.
Carry out health and safety checks regularly.
Support service users in attending college and appointments.
Assist with managing petty cash and budgeting.
Provide ad hoc support such as homework help, English practice, or listening to service users.
Liaise with Key Workers and support staff.
Write reports or email briefs as required, e.g., after social worker visits or safeguarding concerns.
Conduct welfare checks and encourage participation in activities.
Complete monthly reports to social workers and management.
Perform risk assessments and log incidents during shifts, ensuring proper handovers.
Work closely with local authorities, social workers, and other professionals.
