Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Deputy Manager/ Compliance Officer to join our team. The postholder will support the Registered Manager in the effective planning, coordination, and delivery of the operational services. This includes developing strategies, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, managing staff performance, and maintaining high standards of service delivery and care. The role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and the ability to make informed decisions that align with company objectives.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Registered Manager in overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
* Support the Registered Manager in maintaining readiness for CQC inspections and meeting Key Lines of Enquiry (Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, Well-led).
* Maintain evidence for CQC notifications, audits, and governance reviews.
* Lead and motivate team members to achieve operational goals while fostering a positive work environment.
* Conduct regular surveillance to ensure safety and security within the premises, addressing any issues promptly.
* Prepare detailed reports on operational performance, incidents, and staff performance for management review.
* Implement loss prevention strategies to minimise theft and damage to company property.
* Provide first aid assistance as needed, ensuring a safe environment for both staff and customers.
* Collaborate with other departments to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
* Participate in training and development initiatives for staff to improve skills and knowledge.
* Ensure all documentation, care plans, and risk assessments are accurate, current, and compliant with inspection and regulatory standards.
* Ensure the service complies with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and CQC Fundamental Standards.
* Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, promoting best practices in care delivery and safeguarding.
* Manage team rotas, conduct regular staff meetings, and ensure effective communication across all levels of the service.
* Respond promptly to safeguarding concerns and ensure all issues are handled in accordance with company and statutory procedures.
* Supporting the service to recruit and develop new care workers, supporting, supervising and performance managing them.
* Ensure compliance with CQC regulations and maintain readiness for inspections.
* Develop and maintain the organisation's compliance framework, policies, and procedures.
* Conduct regular internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks across all service areas.
* Oversee induction and competency assessments, ensuring new and existing staff are fully trained, competent, and supported to provide safe, high-quality care.
* Provide day-to-day coaching, shadowing, and practical support to staff to reinforce training.
* Contribute to identifying individual and team training needs.
* Deliver or co-deliver basic in-house training sessions where appropriate.
* Ensure staff apply training effectively in practice and escalate concerns where additional training is required.
* Promote a learning culture that encourages professional development and reflective practice.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in a managerial or supervisory role, preferably within a similar industry.
* Strong leadership abilities with a drive to motivate and inspire others.
* Excellent report writing skills with attention to detail.
* Knowledge of surveillance techniques and loss prevention strategies is advantageous.
* First aid certification is desirable but not mandatory; training may be provided.
* Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organisation.
* Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high standard of service delivery.
* Relevant qualification or training (e.g. NVQ Level 5 in Health & Social Care).
