Job overview
This post is for a person who has a genuine enthusiasm for caring and supporting women who have gynaecological problems. The post holder will support registered nursing staff and other health care professionals in the delivery of nursing care to patients at a level determined by training, competence and experience. They will also assist in the maintenance of the care environment and perform housekeeping, clerical, ancillary and pottering roles as requested.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Assist in the provision of patient care in accordance with the care plan prescribed by registered nurses.
- Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team supporting the efficient running of a busy Gynaecology Ward and Gynaecology Assessment Unit alongside other healthcare assistants, nurses, specialist nurses and doctors.
- Assist in the taking of patients’ observations as appropriate to the level of knowledge, skill and competence achieved, and record these in accordance with trust and local policies.
- Assist healthcare professionals with treatment and carry out additional care roles under supervision and as determined by the levels of competence achieved.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, carrying out housekeeping, clerical and ancillary tasks as required.
Job requirements and personal qualities
Applicants must be able to work flexibly with a wide variety of shift patterns and be willing to contribute to a team environment. Candidates should:
- Be literate and numerate.
- Possess good communication skills.
- Enjoy working with patients and be dedicated to providing high-quality care.
Person specification
- Must have completed Level II HCA training or be willing to undertake NVQ training.
- Competent in venepuncture.
