Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical)
Salary - £36,363 - £40,777 (Grade 6)
Hours - 37 hours per week
Contract type - full time, permanent
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our dedicated team within the City of Wolverhampton Council. You will work under the guidance of the Senior Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of building services across the city.
This role involves attending emergency call-outs and to address maintenance and repairs that are unable to be done during the weekday, this is a fundamental requirement of the post.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and troubleshoot heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, with a focus on fault finding and controls.
* Interpret technical drawings and specifications with ease.
* Keep accurate site diaries and manage contract procedures effectively.
* Work independently to ensure systems run smoothly and prevent building closures.
* Demonstrate a proactive approach to preventing system issues and ensuring operational efficiency.
Key Requirements
* Either a JIB graded Electrical PMES Technician or equivalent engineering graded equivalent, or NVQ, Level 4, or equivalent experience by demonstration of ability in building services.
* L8 Responsible person training.
* Certification Scheme approved qualification in commercial gas work.
Skills & Experience
* Substantial experience in heating and ventilation maintenance.
* Expertise in BMS controls, combustion, and ventilation systems.
* In-depth technical knowledge of complex commercial building heating and ventilation systems.
* Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative to keep buildings operational.
* Extensive knowledge in engineering building services maintenance, along with knowledge of the current edition of the IET electrical installation regulations coupled with previous earlier editions of the regulations.
* Experience of BMS control systems would be an advantage, understanding of fire alarm and emergency lighting servicing, knowledge of legionella water systems, understanding of gas systems and combustion equipment, water heating, asbestos awareness, and understanding of lift inspections would be an advantage.
* Record keeping and management of term and framework contractors.

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style.
