Anglian Water offers a flexible approach; this role provides you with the opportunity to combine working from home and from an Anglian Water office. Your based location will be in Worldwide House/ Thorpe Wood House in Peterborough but occasional travel across the Anglian Water region visiting various sites will be required .

To help us achieve this, we’re looking for a dynamic and visionary Senior Stakeholder Engagement Lead to join our Corporate Affairs team and lead the charge in building meaningful, strategic relationships that unlock progress and leave a lasting legacy .
This newly created senior position is pivotal to the success of our capital delivery ambitions. You’ll lead the statutory engagement programme for securing planning consents across major infrastructure projects — from desalination plants and strategic interconnectors to our Colchester Reuse scheme.
You’ll work across a complex matrix of delivery partners, local authorities, statutory consultees, and government bodies, ensuring that engagement is proactive, aligned, and impactful.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and oversee comprehensive engagement strategies for securing planning consents across major infrastructure projects, including desalination plants, strategic interconnectors, and the Colchester Reuse scheme.
- Ensure all engagement plans are aligned with regulatory timelines and delivery milestones, enabling smooth mobilisation of capital projects.
- Identify and engage key decision-makers, influencers, and statutory consultees to streamline planning and permitting processes.
- Create a unified, enterprise-wide view of engagement activities across all capital delivery programmes, ensuring consistency and transparency.
- Establish a cross-functional engagement community within Anglian Water to align messaging and outreach across all delivery programmes.
- Build partnerships with other major infrastructure projects to share best practices and enhance engagement strategies.
- Work closely with programme leads and enabling managers to support project delivery and ensure engagement activities are fully integrated into project plans.
- Develop and implement structured engagement frameworks for local authorities and parish councils, including Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Enhanced Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs).
- Establish a cross-functional engagement community within Anglian Water to align messaging and outreach across all delivery programmes.
- Build partnerships with other major infrastructure projects to share best practices and enhance engagement strategies.
- Work closely with programme leads and enabling managers to support project delivery and ensure engagement activities are fully integrated into project plans.
What does it take to be successful?
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, public affairs, or communications within infrastructure, utilities, or government sectors.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering complex engagement plans across multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of planning processes, statutory consultation, and community engagement.
- A collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.
- Degree in Communications, Political Science, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Skilled in managing outreach plans, crisis communication, and stakeholder reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
