Overview

Plymouth City Council - Ballard House, PL1 3BJ

£215 per day | 3-Month Contract | Full-Time - 37 hours per week

Monday to Friday | Immediate Start Available


About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and dedicated Social Worker to join Plymouth City Council's Children's Services Team. This is a vital statutory role where you'll work to protect and safeguard children and young people who are at risk of harm. You'll be part of a committed team making a real difference in the lives of children and families across Plymouth.

This role is ideal for a social worker with a strong background in child protection and care proceedings, ready to hit the ground running in a fast-paced and supportive environment.


Responsibilities

* Manage a complex caseload involving child protection, care proceedings, and parent assessments
* Undertake detailed assessments of risk and need, working within the legal framework of the Children Act 1989
* Build effective, purposeful relationships with children, young people, and their families
* Deliver evidence-based support packages to help families achieve positive, lasting change
* Lead and participate in court work, preparing reports and giving evidence as required
* Ensure children's voices are central to all assessments, planning, and interventions
* Maintain high standards of case recording and information management
* Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals and stakeholders
* Participate actively in regular supervision, development, and team learning


What We're Looking For

* Qualified Social Worker (Social Work England registered)
* Minimum 3 years' post-qualifying experience in a local authority setting
* Extensive knowledge and experience in child protection and care proceedings
* Preferably Parent Assessment trained (but not essential)
* Strong assessment, analytical, and communication skills
* Comfortable working independently, under pressure, and to tight deadlines
* Willingness to travel, lone work, and occasionally work evenings or weekends
